It always seems like those who take part in the mission trips learn as much as the children they serve. For example, when Buckner staff traveled to a daycare center in Rozmarin, Romani, they saw a little girl set the example of selflessness.
"There were around 50 kids from poor families who attended kindergarten and first grade at the daycare center. When we handed out the shoes, the children from kindergarten were so excited because they had never received new shoes from us before.
"There was a little girl who received shoes first and her friend didn't have a pair yet. So the little girl took her own pair of shoes and tried to put them on her friend's feet so she would have a pair, too. It is amazing how much love these little kids have and that they share with others so selflessly. We learn new things from them every year, and when we see them so happy, there really is no greater satisfaction."
During the trip, volunteers will also have the opportunity to take part in cultural events and do some sightseeing. Buckner handles the details of travel.
Trip participants are responsible for raising their own support, but Buckner can help provide tips for fund raising. Many participants have raised support through family, friends and church.
