Buckner Re-accredited:
Actively seeking families to adopt from Russia!

With the announcement of our official re-accreditation Buckner is actively seeking adoptive parents for waiting infants, toddlers, sibling groups and older orphans in Russia.

Buckner International Adoption was among 37 international agencies to receive a certificate of re-accreditation from the Russian Federation during a Moscow ceremony May 17, 2005.
Barbara Bocharova, head of Buckner programs in Russia, accepted the certificate on behalf of BIA.

“This is significant to Buckner’s continued work in Russia, because it will give us greater influence with the government and will open doors in regions of Russia where we’ve never worked before,” said Debbie Wynne, director of Buckner International Adoption.

Buckner’s foray into international adoption began in 1995, when the Russian government solicited the organization’s expertise on ways to revamp orphanages in St. Petersburg. In the early years, Buckner International Adoption grew in reputation and placements, but hit a wall in 2001, when Russian lawmakers halted adoptions to revamp its adoption policies and establish an accreditation procedure for partner agencies. Once accredited in 2003, Buckner expanded its placement pool from St. Petersburg to about six regions. Today, with re-accreditation, Buckner officials say the agency is poised for exponential growth
“Russia is placing tighter restrictions on accredited agencies due to negative adoption stories, but I have no doubt that we will continue to offer the best services to children and families,” Wynne said.
